location

today we discussed the locations available to film a section of a thriller movie. we decided Wem high street and other local locations would be more relevant as they are easily accessed to the whole group.

film ideas

the movie will begin with 3 men running around Wem high street trying to kill each other, the men will be hooded and the camera will not see their faces to give a mysterious effect, the men will end up in the graveyard where one will be shot. a close up of a shovel being thrust into the ground will be shown then the camera will be blacked out and the sound of digging will be herd

Treatment

story-line

Starts with a split screen of the 2 men smartly dressed, 1 sat with his briefcase waiting for a phone call in the Town Hall and the second parking up in a silver car pulling his phone out. After the call has been made both start walking along Wem High-street towards The Reck, the camera being fixed on the briefcase using a split screen on both case's. Then one man sits on the bench waiting for the other, 5 mins later the other man sits next to the first man and they swap over the two briefcase's and they walk off and then slowly fade to black slow motion both of them walking in opposite directions from the bench as the screen gets darker.

Characters:

story board for thriller opening

These are scanned images of the storyboard i drew out, every time a new camera angle is used there is a new storyboard drawing. We kept our storyboard simple and easy to follow and used the 6th storyboard image as just text because it reminds us of the editing we are going to use. the 6th storyboard image is a point of view shot of one man walking up the street to meet the other man and exchange briefcases (this would be a hard image to draw). Extreme close-ups are used on watches and mobile phones as an action code showing us that action is about to happen, in this short films case, the meet-up and the swapping of the mysterious briefcases which we don't find out what is inside either. Close-ups will be used to show emotions and tense atmosphere when the men meet up and swap briefcases, a establishing shot is used in this scene and the opening to set the scene and finally point of view shots and over the shoulder shots will be used in the swapping of briefcases. Loads of different camera cuts and positions is very necessary in this scene to build tension and pick the pace up on the film to make it a good thriller.
